Cryopeak breaks ground on new LNG production plant in Fort Nelson, BC

Cryopeak LNG Solutions has begun construction on a new liquefied natural gas production facility (LNG production plant) in Fort Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.

The LNG production plant is expected to produce up to about 90,000 gallons of LNG per day.

Cryopeak LNG Solutions claims it to be the first 100% funded and permitted LNG production plant in the Fort Nelson region.

According to the LNG solutions company, the Fort Nelson plant will serve as the nearest LNG production point to northern Canada and parts of Alaska.

The new facility employs a new truck loading system which is said to facilitate optimized loading of a fleet of the company’s LNG Super-B tankers fleet. Cryopeak LNG Solutions said that the new LNG production plant in Fort Nelson will be modular in its design and will hardly have any installation requirements at the site.

The Canadian LNG distributor has selected CryoSys to supply the liquefaction equipment which is required to produce LNG. The equipment will be delivered by CryoSys in early summer to Cryopeak LNG Solutions.

Neil Karr – CryoSys president said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract to deliver the liquefaction package to Cryopeak’s LNG facility in Northern BC.

“Our highly efficient optimized mixed refrigerant process and our ability to package the modular liquefaction plant in our workshop allows us to provide the lowest installation and operating costs for a small-scale LNG plant in the LNG marketplace.”

The new LNG facility in Fort Nelson is expected to allow the communities and remote industries to get a low cost and a more environmentally sustainable fuel source, thereby representing an important development for energy supply to Northern Canada.

The LNG project will generate opportunities for service companies, local construction workers, and operations personnel during the construction and for the distribution of LNG to Northern Canada from a new transportation hub which is being built within the municipality of Fort Nelson.

Cryopeak is joining forces with Fort Nelson First Nations to develop business opportunities that are associated with the LNG project.
