Coal India secures 608.15 million tonnes of coal offtake for FY22

Coal India Limited (CIL), an Indian government-owned coal miner, said that it has secured offtake for 608.15 million tonnes (MTs) of coal as of 4 March 2022 for the fiscal year 2022 (FY 22).

According to Coal India, the company has gone past the previous highest coal off-take of 608.14MTs, which was secured in FY’19. nearly four weeks before the current fiscal draws to a close. The company’s coal offtake has gone past the previous record with almost four weeks left for the closing of the current fiscal year.

Pramod Agrawal — Coal India Chief said: “Sustained efforts and inspired performance” of the company’s subsidiaries has enabled “to end FY’22 on a sound note scaling even more highs.”

The coal miner said that almost all of its subsidiaries are ahead in their respective coal off-take volumes over the corresponding period last year.

Coal India is said to be focusing its efforts to further ramp up its supplies in an effort to reach the off-take mark of 670MTs in FY’22. In FY’21, the company had crossed the 575MT total coal despatch in mid-February itself. Offtake at the end of FY’20 was nearly 580MTs.

A senior executive of Coal India said: “CIL’s current off-take is averaging a little over 2 MTs per day and is expected to go up higher as the month progresses. We are hopeful of reaching 670 MTs if the demand holds.”
