CNOOC Limited has announced the commencement of production at the Bozhong 19-6 Gas Field 13-2 Block 5 Well Site Development Project, marking a significant advancement in its operations. Located in the central Bohai Sea with an average water depth of about 23 meters, this project plays a critical role in the company’s expansion strategy. The main facilities include a wellhead platform, and there are plans to commission 10 development wells. The project aims to achieve a peak production of approximately 5,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2026.
This development underscores CNOOC Limited’s capability as the sole operator and 100% stakeholder of the project. The launch aligns with CNOOC’s broader operational achievements, including a substantial increase in production volumes reported in the first quarter of 2024. The company reported a total net production of 180.1 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE), up 9.9% year-on-year. Notably, production growth in China was 6.9% year-on-year, mainly from newly commissioned projects, while overseas production surged by 16.9% due to increased activities in Guyana and Canada.
Additionally, CNOOC Limited has been active in exploration activities, with two new discoveries and four successful oil and gas structure appraisals. Among these, the Bozhong 8-3 South in offshore China represents a significant new chapter in ultra-deep plays, enhancing the company’s portfolio in challenging environments. Moreover, the discovery at the Bluefin site in Guyana’s Stabroek block further amplifies CNOOC’s presence in promising international waters.
CNOOC Limited’s ongoing projects and new developments signify robust strategic growth, particularly in optimizing resource extraction and expanding their global footprint in the oil and gas industry. The commencement of the Bozhong 19-6 project not only enhances their production capabilities but also solidifies their position as a leader in the energy sector with a focused approach on sustainable and efficient extraction methods.
