CNOOC begins production from Wushi 23-5 Oilfields Development Project
CNOOC Limited, a prominent player in the global energy sector, has officially announced the commencement of production at its pioneering green oilfield, the Wushi 23-5 Oilfields Development Project. Situated in the Beibu Gulf of the South China Sea, this project stands out as the first of its kind in offshore China, boasting a focus on efficient and sustainable oil extraction.
Located in waters with an average depth of 28 meters, the Wushi 23-5 project features two new wellhead platforms alongside the upgraded Wushi terminal. The project is set to reach its peak production in 2026, with an expected output of approximately 18,100 barrels of oil equivalent per day, primarily consisting of light crude oil.
In an ambitious move towards environmental sustainability, CNOOC Limited has designed the Wushi 23-5 oilfield to facilitate a low-carbon operational framework. Notably, it is the inaugural oilfield in the South China Sea to be powered entirely by shore-based electricity. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to achieve full-process recovery and utilization of associated gas through an integrated natural gas treatment system.
