A cloudburst in the early hours of Monday in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district led to a fatality and left three individuals injured.
The cloudburst, which happened around 3:55 am near the village of Kayas, resulted in significant disruption, washing away vehicles and blocking roads.
Badal Sharma, a resident of the Chansari village in Kullu, was identified as the deceased. Two of the injured are reported to be in serious condition. Local authorities promptly responded to the situation, deploying machinery to clear the blockage on the road and expedite rescue operations.
In anticipation of adverse weather conditions, the local meteorological office had issued an orange alert warning, cautioning about heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in the state. With the onset of the monsoon on June 24, the state has been hit hard by rain-related incidents and road accidents, resulting in 118 fatalities.
The state emergency response centre has reported significant economic damage as well, with losses amounting to ₹ 4,415 crores since the monsoon’s commencement.
