Enel Green Power Chile, a subsidiary of Enel Chile, has begun the commercial operations of its 382MW Campos del Sol solar power plant in Chile.
The move follows the official authorization from the National Electricity Coordinator.
The Campos del Sol photovoltaic power plant is situated 60km northeast of Copiapó, Atacama Region.
The solar power plant in Chile features nearly one million bifacial monocrystalline photovoltaic panels that maximize generation of power by arresting solar radiation from both sides of the panel, producing on average 12% more green energy than conventional modules.
The Campos del Sol solar power plant generates green energy of approximately 1,200GWh per year, which will be fed into the National Electric System.
Fabrizio Barderi — Enel Chile general manager said: “The first thing is to congratulate the team that developed this important project, which overcame several challenges, especially in times of pandemic, to build this park, which today is the largest of its kind in the country.
“On the other hand, receiving this authorization allows us to continue advancing in the diversification of our generation matrix, which is based solely on a mix of solar, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric renewable sources.
“We continue our commitment to push for a fair energy transition in Chile, providing clean energy for the various activities the country and its inhabitants need.
“We strive to be a contribution and relevant actor in the process of electrification of consumption at a national level.”
The Campos del Sol solar power plant will supply green energy to around 512,000 Chilean homes and eliminate approximately 947,000 thousand tons of carbon emissions.
Enel Green Power Chile, with a managed capacity of over 43GW, has a diversified portfolio that includes wind, solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric.
