bp secures long-term collaboration with Worley joint venture for Oman’s gas sector
bp has extended its long-standing partnership with the Special Technical Services Worley Integrated Solutions (SWIS) joint venture, granting a three-year renewal of their Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services contract. This agreement ensures continued development and operational enhancements for bp’s Block 61 gas fields, including the Khazzan and Ghazeer projects in Oman.
The SWIS collaboration, originally forged in 2018, has been critical in maintaining and advancing bp’s gas operations in Oman. After a two-year extension in 2022, this latest renewal highlights the strong relationship between bp and Worley, particularly in addressing the complex needs of Oman’s energy infrastructure.
bp and Worley reinforce Oman’s energy capacity
This extended agreement focuses on optimizing both greenfield and brownfield operations. Key responsibilities under the contract include advancing field development, modernizing operational assets, and improving efficiencies at the central processing facility. Gas produced from Block 61 is vital for Oman’s national gas grid and feeds critical supply for Oman LNG, underscoring its strategic role in the nation’s energy ecosystem.
Worley, headquartered in Australia, will continue to lead the initiative from its Oman office. Chris Ashton, Chief Executive Officer of Worley, emphasized the significance of this contract in bolstering the company’s project pipeline and reaffirmed its commitment to operational excellence. Ashton attributed the contract renewal to SWIS’s demonstrated ability to enhance efficiency and reliability in bp’s operations.
Impact on Oman’s energy strategy
Block 61’s significance goes beyond gas production. It serves as a cornerstone of Oman’s energy strategy, balancing domestic consumption needs and export capabilities. With the support of Worley’s expertise, bp’s ongoing operations are expected to strengthen energy security and foster economic growth within the region.
Energy analysts have noted that this partnership aligns with broader efforts to integrate advanced technologies and sustainable practices into Oman’s resource management. By extending this contract, bp signals its long-term commitment to contributing to the region’s stability and energy independence.
