BHEL wins $1.48bn NPCIL order for Gorakhpur and Kaiga nuclear power plants

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) said that it has bagged its largest-ever order, which is worth INR 10,800 crores ($1.48 billion), from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).

Under the order, BHEL will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of turbine island for half a dozen pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWRs), each having 700MW capacity. Out of these, four units will be for the 2.8GW Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plant (Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana) in Gorakhpur, Haryana.

The other two units will be for phase 3 of the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant at Kaiga in Uttar Kannada district, Karnataka.

In March 2021, BHEL announced that it had prevailed in an open competitive bidding process for the fleet mode tender floated by NPCIL for turbine island package projects.
