Babcock & Wilcox Canada wins contract for refinery environmental upgrades

In a significant development for the industrial sector’s environmental compliance, Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises, Inc. (B&W) (NYSE: BW), a leader in energy and environmental technologies and services, announced a major contract through its subsidiary, Babcock & Wilcox Canada Corp. (B&W Canada). The contract, valued at over $13 million, is set to provide a comprehensive suite of equipment, design, and engineering services aimed at helping a North American petroleum refinery meet stringent environmental regulations.

At the heart of this project is B&W’s commitment to reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions, a critical component of the refinery’s environmental strategy. B&W will supply 18 high-efficiency, low-NOx burners for three units within the refinery. These advanced burners are designed to significantly lower NOx emissions, aligning with the industry’s push towards cleaner, more sustainable operations.

Furthermore, B&W’s role extends beyond the supply of burners. The company is tasked with designing a flue gas recirculation system and delivering performance engineering services. Additional responsibilities include the supply of fans and other vital equipment for one of the refinery’s units, showcasing B&W’s comprehensive approach to environmental compliance.

Stephen Dutkiewicz, Vice President & General Manager, Thermal Projects, B&W, emphasized the importance of B&W’s technology in this endeavor: “B&W’s technology will help upgrade this refinery with advanced burners and other technologies, which will significantly reduce the plant’s NOx emissions and assist in the compliance with environmental regulations. As North American manufacturers and industries look to help countries emissions goals, B&W’s environmental technologies can play an important role in the transition to cleaner, more-sustainable energy, and industrial processes.”

The project has already commenced, with equipment supply scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2024. This timeline underscores B&W’s efficiency and readiness to contribute to the refinery’s environmental goals swiftly.
