Aviagen to invest $27m to build new hatchery in Longview, Texas
Aviagen said that it will build a new hatchery in Longview, Texas with an investment of $27 million to produce 1.1 million eggs per week for customers domestically in North America and globally.
The poultry breeding company said that the new location will be its ninth hatchery in North America and the first in Texas. It is said to be taken up by the company in response to a high demand for broiler breeding stock throughout North America and beyond.
Construction on the Aviagen hatchery in Texas is anticipated to begin in September 2021.
Aviagen’s Vice President of Operations – Jason Mack said that Longview was selected for having close proximity to regional and international airports apart from its biosecure location away from other bird populations.
Jason Mack said: “After a long, research-intensive search for the ideal location for our new hatchery, we unanimously chose Longview, a city with a robust labor pool, good work ethic of its citizens, and a strong infrastructure for agribusiness.
“We are looking forward to becoming part of Longview and doing our part to promote the success of this thriving community.”
Expected to be completed in July 2022, the parent stock hatchery in Longview will create 95 new full-time jobs.
Marc de Beer – President of Aviagen North America said: “Even throughout the pandemic, our North American customers have enjoyed a strong demand for healthy, affordable chicken meat.
“We are committed to securing the supply of quality Parent Stock to help our customers put food on the tables of families throughout North America and around the world. The new hatchery in Longview will play a big part in this goal.”
