Argent LNG initiates strategic liquefaction project at Port Fourchon, Louisiana

Argent LNG, in a strategic move to capitalize on the increasing global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), has announced the phased development of liquefaction trains at a Greenfield site located at Port Fourchon, Louisiana. This initiative, backed by a long-term lease with the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, highlights Argent’s commitment to developing a low-cost, low-carbon intensity LNG facility.

Argent has partnered with Worley, a leading global engineering company, to advance this significant project. The initial focus will include the development of site layouts and the selection of the most effective technology to ensure optimal capital cost, operating efficiency, and reduced carbon intensity. Jim Lenton, Group Senior Vice President for Upstream, Midstream, and LNG at Worley, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Since meeting at Gastech 2023, we’ve developed a strong relationship with Argent, and we look forward to continuing to build on that as the project progresses.”

Worley will assist Argent in initiating the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) process, swiftly transitioning into the Pre-Front End Engineering Design (Pre-FEED) phase. This phase will allow for a more defined development plan, leveraging Worley’s consulting teams to identify the preferred technology and layout for the site.

Jonathan Bass, CEO of Argent LNG, commented on the partnership’s progress, “Worley has been very proactive in supporting our development and introducing us to potential beneficial stakeholders for this planned facility. We look forward to capturing the extensive end-to-end capability of Worley as we develop out the site.”

The project’s services will be delivered through Worley’s offices in Houston and Baton Rouge, while also tapping into global LNG subject matter expertise. As the project matures, additional contractors and suppliers will be engaged, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient development process.

The strategic location of Port Fourchon, combined with Argent LNG’s focus on low-cost and low-carbon solutions, positions this project as a potentially transformative force in the global LNG market. By leveraging advanced technologies and strategic partnerships, Argent is poised to make a significant impact on the energy sector’s shift towards more sustainable practices.
