Apollo Hospitals to expand reach with new 500-bed facilities in Mumbai and Lucknow

India’s largest vertically integrated healthcare provider, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, has taken another major step forward in its mission to deliver world-class healthcare across the country. The company has announced plans to establish a new 500-bed hospital in Worli, Mumbai, alongside expanding its existing facility in Lucknow, adding 200 more beds. These initiatives come under a broad expansion plan that aims to introduce over 3,500 new capacity beds within the next four years.

The expansion in Mumbai will mark a significant milestone for Apollo Hospitals as they enter one of India’s most premium locations, further solidifying their status as a leading healthcare provider in the region. The Mumbai facility, which will be established through a “Build, Operate, and Manage” agreement with Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal (KUMM), will cater to a wide range of specialties, including cardiology, oncology, neurology, orthopedics, and more, with cutting-edge robotic surgery capabilities. Apollo Hospitals noted that this facility would cater to both general and charitable needs, thereby supporting KUMM’s social objectives.

The Lucknow expansion will add another 200 beds to the existing Apollo Medics International Lifesciences facility, taking its total capacity to 500 beds. The project is expected to meet growing healthcare demands in the region and contribute to Apollo’s commitment to delivering quality care. Apollo Medics has acquired an additional 1.2-acre plot adjacent to its current facility for the expansion. Both new facilities are scheduled to become operational between FY26 and FY27.

Apollo Hospitals’ Sr. Vice President of Finance, S.M. Krishnan, revealed that the estimated investment for the projects in Mumbai and Lucknow would total Rs 16,250 million, with Rs 13,000 million allocated for Mumbai and Rs 3,250 million for Lucknow. The financing for these projects will come from a combination of internal accruals and debt. This extensive initiative is part of Apollo’s overarching strategy to expand its footprint in key cities and meet the increasing demand for specialized healthcare services.
