Amcor, an Australia-based multinational packaging company, has opened its new flexible packaging facility in , , boosting the company’s position to meet increasing customer demand in the Asia Pacific region.

The production facility spans over 590,000sft and is claimed to be the country’s largest flexible packaging facility by manufacturing capacity.

Built with an investment of approximately $100 million, the packaging plant in Huizhou will manufacture flexible packaging solutions for food and personal-care products as well as provide employment to over 550 people.

The packaging manufacturing facility is claimed to be equipped with the first automated packaging production line in China, along with high-speed printing presses, laminators, and bag-making machines, to bring double-digit cuts in production cycle times.

said that the company is also installing the first smart production and operation system in the Chinese flexible packaging industry, including smart laser scanners, high-standard machine guarding, light curtains, and various quality-control points for traceability throughout the manufacturing cycle, a climate-controlled production environment, and low-carbon emission.

The flexible packaging facility in Huizhou with three labs is expected to use the know-how from the recently opened Amcor Asia Pacific Innovation Center in Jiangyin, China and fast-track the packaging solutions development.

The sustainability features of new Huizhou packaging facility include regenerative thermal oxidizers, energy reduction, heat recovery, low-power consumption, and rainwater harvesting systems that help minimize harmful carbon emissions.

Amcor generated $15 billion in annual sales in the financial year 2022.
