Anthony Hucker, the top executive at Southeastern Grocers, echoed the enthusiasm: “Our union with ALDI builds on our deep-rooted commitment to exceptional quality and service. It’s a transformative step that promises enhanced offerings for our customers and a bright future for our associates.”

With origins tracing back to the mid-1990s, ALDI’s influence in the Southeast has grown substantially, backed by a $2.5 billion investment. It recently unveiled a regional headquarters in Loxley, Alabama, and announced plans to launch 20 more ALDI outlets in the region by year-end. On the other hand, Southeastern Grocers has been a pivotal player in the Southeast for nearly a century, building a legacy of trust and quality.

ALDI’s future plans encompass running the acquired stores with the hallmark quality they’re renowned for. “Some stores might be transformed into the ALDI format, while others will retain their original identity, ensuring we cater effectively to our new neighborhoods,” Hart clarified.

Key advisors in this acquisition included Deutsche Bank for financial guidance, with Baker & McKenzie LLP and Kayne Law Group providing legal and real estate counsel to ALDI respectively.

The acquisition, still pending regulatory nods and typical closing protocols, is set for finalization in the first half of 2024.
