Airtel extends 5G services to Kochi’s water metro stations
Bharti Airtel (Airtel) has expanded its 5G services to include water metro stations in Kochi, thus making it the first company to offer high-speed 5G connectivity to passengers traveling on India’s premier water metro service.
The service now spans along the routes of the Kerala Water Metro service between the High Court-Vypin terminals and the Vyttila-Kakkanad terminals, in addition to the already accessible parts of the island city, said the Indian telecommunications service provider.
The Kochi Water Metro, India’s first, provides seamless connectivity between 10 islands around Kochi through battery-operated electric hybrid boats, with operational routes spanning Kerala High Court to Vypin and Vytilla to Kakkanad.
Airtel’s 5G service has now reached over 3500 cities and towns nationwide, with the company already crossing the 10 million unique customer threshold on its 5G network. The telecom giant plans to have its 5G service accessible in every town and key rural areas by September 2023.
Further enhancing the user experience, Airtel has also launched unlimited 5G data for its customers, encouraging them to fully experience the capabilities of the Airtel 5G Plus network. This initiative removes the cap on data usage across all existing plans, allowing customers to enjoy ultrafast, reliable, and secure 5G Plus services without concerns of data exhaustion.
Amit Gupta — Bharti Airtel Kerala COO said: “We are delighted to be at the forefront of such a transformative project, delivering last-mile connectivity. It is yet another milestone in our ambition to deliver blazing fast 5G speeds to as many of our customers as possible, including on waterways.
“We are thrilled that our customers can now enjoy the power of the 5G service while on the water metro ride and relish the scenic beauty of Kochi.”
