Air Products said that it will construct, own, and operate a green liquid hydrogen production facility in Casa Grande, Arizona, which will have a capacity of 10 metric tons per day.
According to the US industrial gases company, the zero-carbon liquid hydrogen plant is likely to be commissioned next year. The facility’s liquid hydrogen product will be sold to the hydrogen-for-mobility market in California and other locations needing zero-carbon hydrogen.
The liquid hydrogen production facility in Casa Grande will be equipped with a couple of electrolyzers from thyssenkrupp nucera to produce gaseous hydrogen. Air Products will use proprietary technology to convert gaseous hydrogen to liquid hydrogen.
The Casa Grande hydrogen plant will also house a terminal for product distribution to customer locations across California and other markets.
Powered by renewable energy, the Air Products liquid hydrogen production facility will incorporate advanced compression technology supplied via the Baker Hughes strategic alliance for feeding the liquefier.
Eric Guter — Air Products Hydrogen for Mobility Vice President said: “We’re excited to bring this new source of green hydrogen to the California market and recognize the vision of decarbonizing the transportation sector.
“California is a global leader in the energy transition and as a global leader in hydrogen and hydrogen for mobility, Air Products is proud to contribute to solving a significant energy and environmental challenge.
“The Arizona project is another link in the hydrogen supply chain to ensure reliable supply of decarbonized fuel to customers. Air Products is continuing to pursue other opportunities to produce low and zero-carbon hydrogen to help meet the growing demand in world leading geographies.”
