ADNOC and e& to build largest private 5G network in energy industry

ADNOC and e&, the global technology group, have announced a strategic project to construct the energy industry’s largest private 5G wireless network, covering an extensive area of 11,000 square kilometers. This expansive network aims to enhance high-bandwidth connectivity across ADNOC’s vast onshore and offshore operations, set to revolutionize how the company integrates advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions into its most remote facilities.

With a projected completion year of 2025, the network is expected to generate approximately $1.5 billion (AED5.5 billion) in value within the first five years of operation. This initiative will allow ADNOC to reduce costs significantly through automation, boost efficiency, minimize emissions, and enhance the safety of its workforce.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, commented on the venture: “This landmark project with e& is a milestone step in ADNOC’s journey to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. By investing in cutting-edge connectivity across our operations, we can ensure that we continue providing secure, reliable, and responsible energy to our customers while growing our diversified energy portfolio.”

The 5G network will play a crucial role in transmitting real-time data from over 12,000 wells and pipelines to autonomous control rooms, aiding in making real-time recommendations to enhance the lifespan of these assets and ensure field safety. It will also facilitate the digitalization of wellheads and provide end-to-end visibility over operations, thereby driving productivity across ADNOC’s entire value chain.
