Adani Wilmar collaborates with Akshaya Patra Foundation to support school meals in Ahmedabad
Adani Wilmar Limited (AWL), a major player in India’s Food & FMCG sector, has partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a non-profit organization, to enhance its mid-day meal program for underprivileged school children in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This partnership is part of Adani Wilmar’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility, focusing on combating malnutrition and supporting education.
As part of the collaboration, Adani Wilmar will fund the provision of nutritious mid-day meals for one year to children in several schools across Ahmedabad. Additionally, the company has donated delivery vans to ensure efficient and reliable transport of meals to these schools daily. This initiative is designed to alleviate hunger among school children and enhance their learning opportunities by removing the barrier of hunger during the school day.
The initiative was officially launched at a flag-off event in Ahmedabad, where new delivery vans were presented. The event was attended by notable figures including Mr. Ashok Kumar, Business Head of the Food Service Division at Adani Wilmar Ltd., and Sri Raya Rama Dasa, Vice President of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Gujarat. This event highlighted the collaborative efforts of both organizations to support and improve the educational experiences of children through better nutrition.
Angshu Mallick, MD & CEO of Adani Wilmar, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating: “We are honoured to collaborate with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, an organization that has made significant strides in tackling hunger and promoting education. At Adani Wilmar, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to learn without the burden of hunger and we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of underprivileged children by supporting the Mid-Day Meal Program. These delivery vans will not only ensure a smooth delivery of foods to thousands of school children but also ensure that they receive the nourishment they need to succeed academically and personally.”
Similarly, Raya Rama Dasa, Vice President of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Gujarat, shared his gratitude, noting: “We are deeply grateful to Adani Wilmar for their steadfast support and for providing these vehicles which are crucial to our mission. This contribution not only enhances our operational efficiency but also symbolizes a shared commitment to nurturing the young minds of our nation. Together, we are setting a profound example of how collaborations can significantly amplify the reach and impact of social welfare initiatives.”
The partnership between Adani Wilmar and The Akshaya Patra Foundation is just one aspect of Adani Wilmar’s broader CSR efforts, which include the flagship project Fortune SuPoshan. This project aims to combat malnutrition and anemia across India, focusing on children, adolescent girls, and women of reproductive age. In collaboration with the Adani Foundation, the CSR arm of the Adani Group, these initiatives strive to build a healthier, more productive future for India’s youth.
This collaboration is a commendable step towards integrating corporate capabilities with community needs. By leveraging its resources, Adani Wilmar not only supports the immediate nutritional needs of children but also contributes to a sustainable model of community health and education. Looking forward, such partnerships can serve as a model for other corporations seeking to make a real difference in public health and education in India and beyond.
