Recharge Industries has contracted professional services company Accenture as its engineering provider for its proposed gigafactory in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.
At peak, the lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing plant will produce up to 30 gigawatt hours (GWh) of storage capacity annually for electric vehicles and stationary energy storage markets.
The gigafactory is expected to produce batteries equal to 2GWh annually in the second half of 2024 and 6GWh by 2026 until the operations hit their peak.
As part of the contract, Accenture will advise on the facility layout, utility planning, and production lines as well as help in procuring and shipping the essential equipment.
In addition, Accenture will conduct final tests of all line equipment, and provide ongoing process and product engineering support as well as help Recharge Industries adapt US lithium-ion battery technology company Charge CCCV’s (C4V) Intellectual Property to the gigafactory.
Rob Fitzpatrick — Recharge Industries CEO said: “Establishing a sovereign manufacturing capability to produce state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery cells is critical to Australia’s renewable energy economy – meeting national demand, generating export income and securing supply chains.
“Our factory, which we are building with the assistance of Accenture’s engineering and capital projects expertise and underpinned by C4V’s IP and battery technology, will create thousands of jobs and attract large-scale investment from key players in Australia, the Indo-Pacific region, and other parts of the world.”
Recharge Industries has already secured the first 2GWh production line equipment, which is scheduled to arrive in Australia in late May 2023.
In October 2022, Recharge Industries announced a collaboration with C4V for IP, supply chain, blueprints, and technology know-how for battery production.
The construction of the lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing plant in Geelong is anticipated to commence in the second half of 2023.
Recharge Industries is a portfolio company of Scale Facilitation, a Manhattan-headquartered investment firm.
