In a sharp exchange during the concluding session of the 18th Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing critique of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, branding him as “Balak Buddhi” (a grown man with a child’s mind). This statement came during Modi’s response to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address.

Reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s earlier comments in Parliament, Prime Minister Modi accused the Congress leader of performing “drama” to gain public sympathy. “Balak Buddhi has been crying about being targeted, creating a spectacle to garner sympathy,” Modi remarked. He further criticized Gandhi’s parliamentary behavior, saying, “A person with a child’s mind doesn’t know what to say and how to behave…he sometimes winks inside the Lok Sabha… the country now knows him well.”

This fierce exchange highlights the ongoing tension between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition, with Gandhi attacking the government on various issues, including the NEET controversy and the adherence to Hinduism’s true tenets. Parts of Gandhi’s speech were later expunged from the parliamentary records by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Prime Minister Modi also referenced Gandhi’s legal challenges, noting, “A new drama has been started to gain sympathy but the country knows the truth that he is out on bail in a case of embezzlement of thousands of crores of rupees.”

The session took an intense turn when Modi addressed Gandhi’s act of displaying a poster depicting Lord Shiva in the Lok Sabha, warning against undermining parliamentary democracy through such acts. “We should not ignore these acts by calling them childish, the intentions behind this are not good,” Modi added.
