Toshiba forms strategic alliance for Poland’s first nuclear power plant

Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) and Toshiba International (Europe) Ltd. (TIL) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rockfin sp. z o.o. and EthosEnergy Poland S.A, setting the stage for collaboration in Poland’s inaugural nuclear energy initiative. This partnership focuses on the supply of equipment and maintenance services essential for the construction and operation of Poland’s first nuclear power plant.

Advancing Poland’s Nuclear Energy Ambitions

The collaboration is a pivotal development in Poland’s strategic shift from coal-fired power generation to nuclear energy, aligning with the country’s commitment to energy sustainability and security. This move is part of the broader Polish Nuclear Power Program, which was adopted by the Polish government to enhance the nation’s energy infrastructure and reduce its carbon footprint. The first facility is targeted for operational readiness as per the program’s timeline.

Establishing a Local Supply Chain

The MoU signifies a significant step by Toshiba ESS and TIL to establish a robust supply chain in Poland. By partnering with Rockfin, a manufacturer of auxiliary equipment for steam turbines and generators, and EthosEnergy, a provider of maintenance services, Toshiba aims to ensure the provision of high-quality, reliable components and services for the upcoming nuclear projects.

Scope of Collaboration

The partnership will soon move into detailed discussions among Toshiba ESS, TIL, Rockfin, and EthosEnergy to finalize the scope of collaboration. These discussions are expected to cover various aspects of the nuclear power plant’s lifecycle, from construction through to maintenance and potentially decommissioning in the future.
