Technip Energies lands major bp contract for hydrogen production in Australia

TAGS

Technip Energies, a leader in hydrogen production technology, has been awarded a significant contract by energy giant bp for a hydrogen production unit at bp’s Kwinana biorefinery in Western Australia. The contract is a cornerstone in bp’s ambitious project to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biodiesel using bio feedstocks.

Technip Energies to Utilize Proprietary SMR Technology for Hydrogen Unit

The high-value contract covers the Engineering, Procurement, and Fabrication (EPF) of a modularized hydrogen production unit boasting a capacity of 33,000 normal m3/hour. Technip Energies will employ its specialized SMR proprietary technology for this crucial unit. Hydrogen is key for converting bio feedstocks into much-needed biofuels like SAF and biodiesel.

Versatile Hydrogen Production: Natural Gas or Biogas

This advanced hydrogen production unit will have the flexibility to produce hydrogen from either natural gas or biogas produced by the Kwinana biorefinery itself. This aligns perfectly with Technip Energies’ commitment to sustainable solutions and bp’s goal for renewable energy production.

Integration with Kwinana’s Green Hydrogen Plans

The hydrogen production unit is strategically planned to integrate with Kwinana’s existing import terminal operations and its ongoing plans for green hydrogen production. The Kwinana Renewable Fuels project is just one among five similar biofuel production initiatives that bp has planned on a global scale.
