Tortue Phase 2 development : BW Energy, a subsidiary of Norwegian FPSO operator BW Offshore, has completed drilling of the second production well – DTM-5H of the second phase development of the Tortue field, offshore Gabon.

The drilling of the DTM-5H well in the Dussafu Marin permit marks the completion of the first of two new well clusters on the Tortue field which will have a tie back to the BW Adolo FPSO for boosting oil output.

According to BW Offshore, the first production from the completed cluster, comprising the DTM-4H and DTM-5H production wells, is scheduled for March 2020.

The second cluster will also have two wells and is likely to be brought into production by June 2020.

Following the completion of phase 2 development, the Tortue field will have six wells that will produce a combined 17.3-21.6 kbopd gross this year, compared to 11.8 kbopd gross on average produced last year.

Carl K. Arnet – CEO of BW Energy said: “We are pleased to be on plan and budget for the completion of our current well program. This will give us a substantial increase in production over the coming two quarters.”

The DTM-5H production well was drilled using the Borr Norve jackup rig in water depth of 116 meters as a horizontal production well in the Gamba reservoir.

BW Offshore said that during the drilling, a long horizontal portion of good quality oil-saturated Gamba sands was accessed and completed. The subsea tree was installed and is ready for hook up.

The Borr Norve jackup rig will now spud the DTM-6H well and will drill the fifth and sixth development wells in the Tortue field.
