Wipro launched the new Cloud Car platform, which has been showcased during at MWC Barcelona 2022 under the Engineering the Cloud Car Ecosystem panel.

According to the Indian IT services provider, the cloud car ecosystem will bring software-defined vehicles to the cloud through a platform that is scalable, secure, and hardware agnostic.

The Cloud Car platform will combine Wipro FullStride Cloud Services and Wipro’s engineering capabilities with a partner ecosystem as well as consortiums.

The platform will provide an integrated, cloud-native software solution to automakers, that is equipped with an end-to-end cybersecurity system for enabling them innovate quicker at a lower cost and make software-defined vehicles (SDVs) relevant digitally for years.

Thomas Mueller — Wipro CTO of Engineering and R&D Services said: “Today, most SDVs come with pre-set features that are difficult and time-consuming to upgrade, rendering them outdated as new technologies come to market.

“Our goal is to make it possible for automobile manufacturers to deliver vehicles that get better every day, so both they and generations of owners can drive better return on investments.”

Wipro said that the Cloud Car platform will dissociate software and hardware that were previously integrated to help manufacturers validate and upgrade software at a digital scale that is unmatched. Due to this, generations of owners can tailor their vehicles based on their unique and changing requirements.

On the other hand, automobile manufacturers can address software failures with the help of over-the-air updates without needing to resort to physical recalls, said Wipro. Furthermore, the ‘always-on,’ ‘feature-on-demand’ functionality will come with strong cyber security and functional safety architecture and will help increase the residual value of vehicles, said the company.

Thomas Mueller added: “By 2030, the vast majority of new vehicles will be SDVs.

“These cars will connect in real-time with the world around them. They will leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to constantly gather data, provide valuable information and, eventually, make autonomous decisions. Unlocking the true potential of SDVs will require moving them to the cloud.

“We are fast forwarding to that future by making the Cloud Car ecosystem available to every automotive company in the world today.”

The Cloud Car platform will also utilize a ‘shadow mode’ architecture, which will passively work in the background to collect and consolidate data from sensors and cameras and the driver as well, which, over time is expected to help in validation and safety of autonomous functionalities.
