Voith helps Papresa re-build PM 5 machine at Rentería paper mill

German technology company Voith has helped Spanish paper manufacturer Papresa start operations of its re-built PM 5 paper machine at its Rentería paper mill in Spain.

The PM 5 was converted by Voith from newsprint to testliner and corrugating medium following an order placed a year ago.

According to Voith, the PM 5 will enable substantially more efficient and sustainable production of packaging papers at the Rentería paper mill.

On the other hand, the production of newsprint will be taken care at the PM 6 machine of the same Spanish paper mill.

Miguel Sánchez — President and CEO of Papresa said: “With Voith, we had a long-standing technology partner on our side for the conversion of PM 5, one that knows our plant and requirements inside out and has extensive experience in sustainable paper machine rebuilds.

“Voith’s expertise and many years of close cooperation have paid off – both the conversion and the start-up went smoothly and to our full satisfaction.”

The PM 5 paper machine has a capacity of producing nearly 205,000 tons of testliner and corrugating medium per annum at a design speed of 1,200 m/min.

The focus of production is on lightweight packaging grades in the range of 65 and 140 g/m², while the web width at the reel is 5,400 mm, and the wire width is 5,900 mm.

Apart from carrying out modifications in the approach flow system, Voith had upgraded the forming section with a DuoFormer D, which includes new dewatering elements.

Besides, Voith supplied the DuoShake shaking unit as well as a MasterJetPro F/B headbox with ModuleJet I dilution water technology.

Marcos Garcia de la Torre — Managing Director of Voith Paper said: “With our know-how, innovative components and cutting-edge digital technology, we ensure that Papresa achieves its efficiency and productivity goals with less investment. At the same time, we are strengthening our position as the preferred partner for rebuilds and customer-specific optimization projects.”
