Tractebel bags contract from WAPDA for DASU hydropower project in Pakistan

has bagged a contract from the Water & Power Development Authority of Pakistan (WAPDA) for the 2,160MW DASU to be built along the Indus River in Pakistan.

Under the contract, will be responsible for providing monitoring consultancy services for the implementation of the Pakistani hydropower project, which will come up 7km upstream of Dasu town, 74km downstream of Diamer Basha Dam and nearly 300km from ’s capital Islamabad.

The Pakistani government has secured loan from the World Bank for executing the first phase of the DASU hydropower project.

The DASU hydro project is expected to involve six years of construction and in the second phase is planned to be expanded to be doubled to reach 4,320MW. The Pakistani will also see 62km long relocation of the Karakoram Highway.

’s water experts will give management support to the Water & Power Development Authority of during the implementation of the DASU and also independently supervise the environment and social management plans.
