Structures A&E gas project : Eni to develop $8bn gas project in Libya

Eni, an Italian multinational energy company, and The National Oil Corporation of Libya will develop the approximately $8bn Structures A&E gas project to enhance gas production to supply the Libyan domestic market and export to Europe.

The Structures A&E project includes the development of two gas fields, namely Structures A and E, which are situated in the contractual area D, offshore Libya.

In addition, the offshore gas project in Libya includes the construction of a carbon capture and storage facility at the Mellitah Complex and minimizes the total carbon emissions, consistent with Eni’s decarbonization plan.

Claudio Descalzi — Eni CEO, commenting on the Structures A&E gas project, said: “This agreement will enable important investments in Libya’s energy sector, contributing to local development and job creation while strengthening Eni’s role as a leading operator in the country.”

Structures A and E will be tied into the existing treatment facilities at the Mellitah Complex to ensure gas production.

The two platforms of the Structures A&E gas project with potential for the combined gas production of 750 million of standard gas cubic feet a day, will begin gas production in 2026.

Eni runs its exploration, production and development operations in Libya through the joint venture Mellitah Oil and Gas in which Eni and The National Oil Corporation of Libya hold 50% stake each.

The average equity production was 165,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day in 2022, according to the Italian energy company.
