Siemens Mobility to supply 100 Vectron locomotives to Railpool

Siemens Mobility has bagged an order to supply 100 Vectron locomotives to Railpool, European rolling stock leasing company based in Germany.

An initial order for 70 locomotives was placed by the rail vehicle rental company during the contract signing.

According to Siemens Mobility, the various locomotive variants will be used on north-south and east-west rail corridors in Europe and can be run in up to 18 countries.

Last year, Railpool had given an order to Siemens Mobility for 20 Vectron MS locomotives.

Torsten Lehnert — CEO of Railpool said: “It’s becoming more and more important for our customers to be able to use their locomotives flexibly based on the needs in different European countries. With the purchase of additional Vectron locomotives with universal applicability, we are responding to these market needs and are also sending a positive and ecofriendly signal in a growing railway sector.”

The Vectron locomotives to be supplied to Railpool are said to have a maximum power at wheel of 6.4MW and a top speed of 200km/h. The locomotives are also fitted with the necessary national train control systems and the European Train Control System (ETCS), said Siemens, the parent firm of Siemens Mobility.

Albrecht Neumann — CEO of Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock said: “This major order confirms our successful partnership with Railpool and the excellent quality of our locomotives.

“By ordering the Vectron MS, Railpool has not only opted for a very powerful and highly reliable locomotive, but chose a multi-system version that will be able to provide cross-border rail transport without changing locomotives. This will ensure maximum operational flexibility for our customer and enable them to react quickly to changing market conditions.”
