Shepard Broad Causeway bridge replacement project : SNC-Lavalin wins design and engineering contract

SNC-Lavalin has bagged a multi-year design and engineering contract for replacing the Shepard Broad Causeway bridge in south Florida.

According to the Canadian EPC company, the bridge replacement project in Florida will result in multi-modal safety enhancements, boost mobility, improve capability in hurricane evacuation, and alleviate daily and seasonal congestion. These are expected to be achieved by replacing the old bascule bridge with a bridge that complies with present standards in design and is in line with the regulations of the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

The role of SNC-Lavalin will be that of the prime consultant on the Shepard Broad Causeway bridge replacement project. The Canadian EPC company will be responsible for carrying out the feasibility and environmental study, development of concept plan as well as full design packages and construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services.

The Shepard Broad Causeway bridge is said to have an important role in allowing traffic flow between the beaches and mainland Miami-Dade County over the Intracoastal Waterway.
