KBR said that SOCAR-KBR, the company’s joint venture (JV) with SOCAR, has won a contract pertaining to the Shah Deniz compression project, offshore Azerbaijan.

The optimization stage engineering services contract was won by the joint venture from BP Exploration (Shah Deniz).

Located in the Caspian Sea, the Shah Deniz compression project is in the early pre-final investment decision (pre-FID) stage. It will be the first project in the Caspian region to have crewless operations with an objective to deliver process optimization with high-end technology, claimed KBR.

Under the terms of the contract, SOCAR-KBR will be responsible for supporting optimization and providing class-3 engineering services at the Shah Deniz field.

The scope of the contract also covers engineering to facilitate the integration of the new platform into the existing system and deliver shore power to lower the carbon footprint as part of BP’s efforts to achieve net-zero targets.

Recently, KBR wrapped up the initial assessment for the Shah Deniz compression project using its proprietary KBR Maintenance Information Tool (KMIT) to deliver comprehensive estimates of timing and resourcing of maintenance.

Jay Ibrahim — KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions business president said: “We look forward to working with BP to achieve their goals of introducing novel, crewless operations to the region, while also lowering their carbon footprint, reducing operating costs, and eliminating personnel risks associated with such projects.

“KBR’s technical innovation is paving the way for clients to more easily navigate their energy transition journey toward net zero.”
