Satellite communications firm Nelco bags Rs 40cr contract from ONGC

Nelco, an Indian satellite communication service provider, has bagged an INR 40 crores worth contract from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to boost the latter’s communication infrastructure at offshore sites.

According to Nelco, the scope of the contract covers supply, commission, and maintenance of the oil and gas firm’s captive very small aperture terminal (VSAT) based network.

The VSAT-based network will be utilized to improve the communication infrastructure of the Western India offshore sites of ONGC.

Nelco said that it will overhaul ONGC’s existing Ku band captive network as per its requirement, which will facilitate voice, and data communication between the oil and gas giant’s offshore installations, and onshore locations.

Also, part of the project is upgradation of existing Ku band satellite communication infrastructure alongside upgrading of the RF and antenna systems and other required electronic systems at all sites. Nelco, which is part of the Tata Group, expects the system to allow connectivity for offshore platforms, specialized vessels, drilling rigs, and onshore locations.

Nelco said that it will provide ONGC with an integrated satellite-based end to end IP connectivity solution to address requirements for existing and upcoming voice and data applications apart from giving a back-up network for the existing C band satellite network of the latter.
