Sakarya field development phase 2 : Subsea 7 bags contract from Turkish Petroleum
Subsea 7 S.A. has been awarded a contract for the second phase of the Sakarya field development in the Turkish waters of the Black Sea.
The contract, valued at over $750 million, was granted by Turkish Petroleum.
The announcement of this two-phase subsea development contract was made in a redacted form on 12 May 2023. The first phase has already been included in the backlog for the second quarter of 2023, while the sanctioning of the second phase in 2024 is pending approval from the client.
The consortium responsible for the contract includes Subsea7, OneSubsea2 (a partner in Subsea Integration Alliance), SLB, and Saipem.
The integrated project scope of the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract of the Sakarya field development phase 2 encompasses various subsurface solutions, such as subsea production systems (SPS) and subsea umbilicals and flowlines (SURF).
Subsea7’s responsibilities under the contract involve the EPCI of approximately 37 kilometers of infield flowlines, 47 kilometers of control umbilicals, and associated subsea equipment in water depths of 2,000 meters.
Additionally, the contract includes additional front-end engineering design (FEED) studies and options for expanding the scope of work.
Project management and engineering tasks will be handled from the Subsea7 office in Istanbul, Turkey.
Offshore activities are expected to take place between the second quarter of 2025 and the third quarter of 2025, with the possibility of further scope extension between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the fourth quarter of 2027, pending a final investment decision from the client.
Franck Louvety — Subsea 7 Africa, Middle East & Caspian Vice President, commenting on the Sakarya field development phase 2 contract, said: “Through the close collaboration of Subsea7, OneSubsea and Turkish Petroleum, first gas from Sakarya Phase 1 was delivered just 30 months after discovery. Subsea7 looks forward to extending this relationship for Phase 2 and continuing our contribution to the development of the energy industry in Türkiye.”
The Sakarya field is a significant natural gas discovery made by Turkish Petroleum (TP) in 2020.
The Sakarya project phase 2 development entails the implementation of additional subsea infrastructure and facilities to further exploit and produce gas from the Sakarya field. This includes the installation of subsea production systems (SPS), subsea umbilicals and flowlines (SURF), and associated subsea equipment.
