Maire Tecnimont has bagged an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract worth around €1.1 billion from Rosneft for a hydrocracking complex at the Ryazan oil refinery in Russia.

The Italian engineering company said that the contract for the vacuum gas oil (VGO) hydrocracking complex was signed by its subsidiaries Tecnimont and MT Russia.

Vacuum gas oil is produced by a vacuum distillation unit in a refinery.

The new VGO hydrocracking complex at the Ryazan oil refinery, which will cater to the requirements of the domestic market, will have a daily capacity of 40,000 barrels.

Its annual capacity of 2.2 million tons is expected to help the Russian oil refinery complex to boost the rate of conversion and refining margins by converting dark petroleum products into Class 5 light commercial petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, and kerosene.

The VGO hydrocracking complex will house hydrocracking units, sulfur recovery units, hydrogen production units, and offsite facilities.
