Rewa Solar Project : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 750MW Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh state through a video conference.

The solar power project in Madhya Pradesh is made up of three solar generating units, each of 250MW capacity. Developed in Gurh Tehsil of Rewa District on a 500-hectare plot of land located inside a 1500-hectare solar park, the Rewa solar project is touted to be the largest single-site solar power plant in India and the world.

The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project is owned by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar (RUMSL), which is a joint venture between state-owned Madhya Pradesh UrjaVikas Nigam (MPUVN) and the Indian government-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

RUMSL received financial assistance of Rs 138 crore from the central government for developing the Rewa Solar Project.

The electricity generated by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project is sold to Power Management Company, the state of Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which will get 24% of the power.

The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project is expected to offset carbon emission equivalent to nearly 15 lakh ton of CO2 per year.

Upon development of the solar park, Mahindra Renewables Private, ACME Jaipur Solar Power Private, and Arinsun Clean Energy Private were chosen by RUMSL via reverse auction for developing the three 250MW solar generating units of the Rewa Solar Project.

The Indian Prime Minister’s Office stated: “The Rewa Solar Project was the first solar project in the country to break the grid parity barrier. Compared to prevailing solar project tariffs of approx. Rs. 4.50/unit in early 2017, the Rewa project achieved historic results: a first year tariff of Rs. 2.97/unit with a tariff escalation of Rs. 0.05/unit over 15 years and a levelized rate of Rs. 3.30/unit over the term of 25 years.”
