Prabhat Dairy to boost cheese production with Rs 140 crore investment
Prabhat Dairy will invest Rs 140 crore for a new production line for cheese in Maharashtra to tap into the growing demand for the dairy product in the country.
The new production line will be commissioned at its dairy facility in Shrirampur in Ahmednagar district.
Prabhat Dairy mainly produces three cheese varieties which include mozzarella, cheddar and processed cheese claimed to be made from fresh and unadulterated cow’s milk sourced directly from dairy farmers.
The dairy company which makes curd, ice creams and other dairy products has an automated production facility which delivers products to hotels, restaurants, quick service restaurants and caterers on a regular volume basis.
Prabhat Dairy which began commercial cheese product in the second quarter of last year owns what is claimed to be India’s third largest cheese plant. Its Shrirampur plant which will see addition of new production line, currently produces 20 tonnes of cheese each day.
The dairy company has another production facility in Navi Mumbai. Some of Prabhat Dairy’s products include cow ghee, flavoured milk, pasteurized milk, lassi, buttermilk, cheese, paneer and shrikhand.
Prabhat Dairy distribution network for its cheese business currently spans across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and parts of Punjab. The company is also taking its products gradually in the southern cities of Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
While it has gained significant business from the many quick service restaurants in India for its cheese supply, Prabhat Dairy has also started exporting its dairy products in the Middle East to the Yum Brand which owns KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants.
Some of its important clients it has listed on its website include Mondelez International, Danone, Future Group, Heritage, Haldiram’s, Mother Dairy, Nestle and Britannia.
