GE Renewable Energy has signed an agreement with Luxcara, an asset management company, to deliver turbines for the latter’s 753MW Önusberget wind farm in Sweden.

As per the agreement signed in February, GE Renewable Energy will supply 137 of its Cypress 5.5 MW turbines for the onshore wind farm in northern Sweden.

Each turbine will have a 158-meter rotor, which will be suitable for the wind speeds and climate of the project site, said the company.

The turbine blades will feature an ice mitigation system, which will help in a stable level of availability and in reducing downtime of the Önusberget wind farm.

GE Renewable Energy will also provide a 25-year full-turbine maintenance and service for the Swedish wind project.

The Önusberget wind project is claimed to become the largest single onshore wind farm in Europe. Apart from that, it marks the largest onshore wind farm contract outside of the US for GE Renewable Energy.

Jérôme Pécresse – President and CEO of GE Renewable Energy said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Luxcara to partner on the largest ever single onshore wind farm to be built in Europe.

Alexandra von Bernstorff – Managing Partner of Luxcara said: “We are proud to work with GE to build Europe’s largest onshore wind farm in the resource-rich north of Sweden. We were among the first to enter the Nordic wind market back in 2015 and this project re-affirms our position as the region’s largest long-term investor in the sector.”

The Önusberget wind farm is estimated to produce enough power to supply electricity to power 200,000 plus homes across Sweden annually.

To be made up of two sub-parks – Kallamossen and Djupdal, the wind farm will offset around 1,000,000 tons of CO₂ through its lifetime.
