Odfjell Drilling bags contracts for Deepsea Yantai rig from Shell and OMV

Scottish offshore drilling contractor Odfjell Drilling has bagged a contract from Norske Shell for using the Deepsea Yantai drilling rig for a well plugging and abandonment campaign in the Norwegian North Sea.

The Deepsea Yantai rig is owned by CIMC OFFSHORE and is managed by Odfjell Drilling.

A total of nine wells at four different well locations are part of the program and are located across the Knarr and Gaupe fields.

According to Odfjell Drilling, the scope of work is expected to take 145 days with the execution to begin in the third or fourth quarter of 2023.

The Scottish offshore drilling contractor also announced another contract win for the Deepsea Yantai drilling rig, which is from OMV Norge for the drilling of a well in the North Sea.

The Deepsea Yantai will drill the Eirik well in PL 817 and stands to win the drilling work for one optional well in 2023 or 2024.

The drilling of the Eirik well is projected to take 60 days and will start in the first quarter of 2023, said Odfjell Drilling.
