Larsen & Toubro begins operations of green hydrogen plant in Hazira

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has started operations of a green hydrogen plant at its AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.

According to Larsen & Toubro, the plant will produce 45kg of green hydrogen daily based on an alkaline electrolysis process. The produced hydrogen will be utilized for captive consumption at the Hazira manufacturing complex.

Designed for an electrolyzer capacity of 800kW, the L&T green hydrogen plant is made up of Alkaline (380kW) and PEM (420kW) technologies. It will be powered by a 990kW peak DC capacity rooftop solar plant as well as a 500kWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

According to Larsen & Toubro, the 380kW alkaline electrolyzer has been set up as part of the first phase of the project. The 420kW PEM electrolyzer and the solar plant capacity augmentation to 1.6MW peak DC will be installed under future expansion plans.
