K-TIG develops welding procedures for A516 Grade 70 Carbon Steel

K-TIG Limited, an Australian metal fabrication company, said that it is set to foray into the global carbon steel market having successfully developed welding procedures for A516 Grade 70 Carbon Steel.

According to the company, A516 Grade 70 Carbon Steel is a high strength, low alloy steel plate that is used across the world for making key components for heavy industries.

K-TIG said that its advanced keyhole welding technology was employed for single pass butt welding and multi pass welding using A516 material. The metal fabrication company claimed that the results were verified independently and certified to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards.

Adrian Smith – K-TIG Managing Director said: “A516 is one of the most commonly used carbon steels globally and particularly in the USA. Demonstration of K-TIG achieving ASME Code certified welds is an exciting milestone that further expands the market opportunity for our technology.”

K-TIG said that the ASME certification enables the company to tap into the global market for carbon steel, which it says is larger than stainless steel market. As an entry point for this, the Australian metal fabrication company is eyeing the carbon steel pipe and vessel market.

Dr. Zhenyu Fei – K-TIG Manager of Welding Research and Development said: “This independently verified A516 steel result proves that K-TIG technology can be successfully used to weld the many other carbon steels with similar chemistry that are prevalent in industry.”
