IOCL awards contract to McDermott for maleic anhydride unit

McDermott, a global engineering and construction company, has been awarded a significant project management consultancy (PMC) contract by India Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

The contract pertains to the Maleic Anhydride (MAH) unit at the Panipat and Petrochemical Complex, situated just 62 miles (100 kilometers) from New Delhi, India.

As part of the contract, will provide comprehensive project management and consultancy services for the MAH unit. This includes conducting front-end engineering design (FEED), reviewing engineering activities, overseeing construction, offering assistance during start-up, pre-commissioning, commissioning, performance guarantee tests, and ensuring the smooth closure of the project.

has a long-standing relationship with and is currently executing three large-scale projects at their Barauni and Haldia refineries,” said Vaseem Khan, McDermott’s Senior Vice President, Onshore. “Our unrivaled project management and execution capabilities, combined with our decades of experience in India, uniquely position us to successfully execute this project.”

Notably, this project marks the establishment of India’s first mega-scale MAH plant, aimed at producing various chemical products. Maleic Anhydride is a crucial component used in the manufacturing of specialty items such as resins, surface coating plasticizers, agrochemicals, and lubricant additives. The plant will also yield Tetra Hydro Furan (THF), extensively employed in adhesives and vinyl film, as well as Butanediol (BDO), which finds application in engineering-grade plastic and biodegradable fibers.

will carry out the project’s activities from its Center of Excellence located in Gurugram, India. This achievement reinforces McDermott’s expertise in delivering exceptional engineering and project management solutions in the petrochemical industry.
