Offshore wind industry news : DEME Offshore, a subsidiary of the DEME Group, has bagged a contract worth more than €200 million from Orsted for the transport and installation of foundations and turbines of the 1.4GW Hornsea Two offshore wind farm in the UK North Sea.

Under the contract, the marine engineering services provider will transport and install 165 monopile foundations and undertake scour protection.

Orion, a new DP3 offshore installation vessel to join the fleet of the company by the year end, will be deployed for the installation of the monopoles and transition pieces. The new DP3 offshore installation vessel is claimed to feature high transport and load capacity, in addition to a crane with a lifting capacity of 5,000 tonnes.

DEME Offshore will also be responsible for the transportation and installation of 165 Siemens Gamesa 8.4 MW turbines for the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm, which it will carry out using the Sea Challenger and Sea Installer vessels. DEME Group expects to wrap up the turbine installation for the Hornsea Two Offshore wind project in early 2022.

The Hornsea Two offshore wind farm, which is being built nearly 89km from the Yorkshire coast, is expected to meet the power consumption needs of more than 1.3 million UK homes annually.

Expected to be commissioned by 2022, the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm will generate close to 2,000 jobs for its construction followed by 130 roles for its operations.
