GMDC prevails as highest bidder for two coal mines in Odisha
Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) said that it has prevailed as the highest bidder for a couple of coal mines in Odisha in the recently held commercial coal block auction by the Indian Ministry of Coal.
The mining public sector undertaking (PSU) enterprise successfully bid for the Burapahar Block in the Sundargarh district, which has a geological reserve of 548 million tonnes. The second bid won by Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation is the Baitarani (West) Block in Angul district, which has a geological reserve of 1,152 million tonnes.
According to Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation, the acquisition of the two coal blocks in Odisha is a major achievement for the company as it grows its footprint in the coal mining sector and will help in the growth of the country’s economy.

With the new wins, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation said that its additional 21 MTPA will be fuelling the energy demand of India to further cement its position as a major mining player in the sector.
Furthermore, the expansion helps Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation stretch beyond the geographical boundaries of Gujarat and helps plan opportunities in the future for the development of the power sector and building energy needs of India.
