German energy company E.ON starts Stella Windfarm construction in Texas

Wind industry news : German energy company E.ON has started construction of its 23rd wind energy project in North America in the form of the 201MW Stella Windfarm in Kenedy County in South Texas.

The Stella Windfarm will be built in the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) south market and is slated to begin operations by the end of this year.

Nordex Group, a German wind turbine company has been given the contract to supply 67 3.0MW turbines for the Stella Windfarm, which is set to become the fifth project along the Texas coast for E.ON.

According to the German energy company E.ON, the Stella Windfarm will be able to meet the power consumption needs of over 60,000 homes.

Commenting on the Stella Windfarm, Silvia Ortin – Chief Operating Officer of E.ON North America, said: “This project was a direct result of the federal policies to encourage growth in the renewable sector and confirms the continued attractiveness of the U.S. wind market.

“When completed Stella will add to our coastal wind portfolio with now more than 1 gigawatt in operation.”

Wind Industry News Updates

E.ON had recently got two of its US wind projects commissioned, which include the Bruenning’s Breeze wind farm of 228MW capacity and the Radford’s Run wind farm of 305.8MW.

Located in Willacy County, Texas, the Bruenning’s Breeze wind farm is made up of 76 3MW wind turbines supplied by the Nordex Group.

On the other hand, the Radford’s Run wind farm has been built in Macon County, Illinois where it has been in operations since October 2017. The Radford’s Run wind farm, built with an investment of around $500 million, is made up of 139 2MW wind turbines from Danish wind turbine company Vestas.

Very soon, the Stella Windfarm will be adding more installed power capacity to E.ON in the US where the German energy company has developed, built and operated more than 3,600MW of solar power, wind power and energy storage projects.
