GE Renewable Energy secures turbine order for 158MW wind farms in Turkey

Wind industry news : GE Renewable Energy has won a contract from Türkerler and RT Enerji to supply turbines for five Turkish wind farms in Turkey.

Under the contract, the company will supply 49 GE’s 3MW turbines for the five Kirazli, Meryem, Sile, Pamukova and Mahmut Sevket wind farms.

With a total capacity of 158MW, the turbines will be installed in wind farms located at Izmir, Bilecik, Sakarya and Istanbul. The five wind farms in Turkey are expected to generate enough renewable energy to power 183,000 homes.

The contract secured by GE Renewable Energy also includes a 10-year servicing agreement.

To fulfill the turbine supply order, LM Wind Power, which was acquired by GE Renewable Energy in 2017, will manufacture 147 blades for the wind turbines at its wind turbine blades factory in Bergama, Izmir, Turkey.

Currently employing over 450 people, the wind turbine blades factory began operations in July 2017.  The site was the fifteenth factory for LM Wind Power and the first factory after LM Wind Power’s acquisition by GE Renewable Energy.

Recently, the company announced plans to build a new offshore wind factory at Jieyang’s Offshore Wind cluster in the Chinese province of Guangdong.

It will also open a new Operation and Development Center in the city of Guangzhou.

The new offshore wind factory in Jieyang is aimed at meeting the growing demand from the offshore wind market in China.

It is expected to serve regional projects, while the Saint-Nazaire assembly site in France, currently manufacturing the Haliade-X 12 MW prototype, will continue to serve all other international projects.
