Ganesha Ecosphere, an Indian recycled polyester (rPET) fiber producer, has signed a mutual collaboration agreement with US-based Applied DNA Sciences, for deploying the latter’s CertainT platform for securing the recycled polyester supply chain.

CertainT, which is a traceability system, will be used by Ganesha Ecosphere to tag an initial pilot production of rPET at its facilities in India and also for carrying out confirmatory samples testing at Applied DNA’s laboratories in India and the US.

Applied DNA Sciences is a provider of polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based DNA manufacturing and nucleic acid-based technologies.

Its collaboration with Ganesha Ecosphere is expected to offer a solution to brands and textile manufacturers to support their sustainability targets for rPET and confirm the authenticity of raw material at all stages of the textile value chain.

Dr. James A. Hayward — president, and CEO of Applied DNA Sciences said: “CertainT provides brands and manufacturers with a real strategic advantage that is truly sustainable, traceable and trusted.

“Our India and Asia-based support teams for recycled PET and other polymers facilitate CertainT’s commercial scale-up and integration into customers’ supply chain.”

The collaboration agreement will enable Ganesha Ecosphere to launch and apply CertainT-verified rPET to offer assurance for the raw material with textile and apparel customers.

The rPET fiber producer will also use Applied DNA’s recently launched SigNature T-100 tracer system that lets rPET source material quantified in polyester blends by the CertainT platform.

SigNature T-100 is a molecular-based tracer system that identifies, analyzes, and verifies rPET, acrylic, polypropylene, and possibly other man-made materials for claims of identification as well as quantification of the raw material tagged and spun subsequently into yarn for various textile products.

B.P. Sultania — Joint President of Ganesha Ecosphere said: “Traceability has now added more authenticity and credibility to the entire textile supply chain and is becoming an integral part of the recycling process. With Applied DNA and CertainT, our customers can now trust in the original tagged synthetic fiber and verify product-related sustainability claims.”
