Changhua Windfarm Phase 1 : Heerema bags contract for installation of jacket foundations

Jan de Nul’s Taiwan branch has selected Heerema Marine Contractors to install 21 jacket foundations (4 legged) for the 110MW Changhua Windfarm Phase 1 offshore wind project.

Taiwan Power Company (TPC) is the owner of Changhua Windfarm Phase 1 located offshore Taiwan, 8km off the coast of Changhua county. The Taiwanese offshore wind project is being executed by Jan de Nul and Hitachi in consortium.

Heerema Marine Contractors plans to use Aegir, a fast sailing heavy lift vessel for the installation of the jacket foundations. The Dutch offshore contractor said that the Aegir heavy lift vessel can execute such projects and is perfectly suited to install the 21 foundations in the rough conditions that are prevalent in the region.

Heerema Marine Contractors said that the offshore phase of the Changhua Windfarm Phase 1 offshore wind project will begin in March 2020 with completion slated for early June 2020.

In April 2018, Jan de Nul and Hitachi were awarded the contract for the Changhua Windfarm Phase 1 offshore wind project for the manufacturing and installation of 21 turbines with a capacity of 5.2MW each.

The contract covers the manufacturing and installation of all the equipment associated with the Taiwanese offshore wind farm along with its operation and maintenance for a duration of five years.

Jan De Nul will carry out the design, fabrication, and installation of the jacket foundations, installation of the offshore wind turbines, upgrading of the substation, and supply and installation of offshore and onshore cables.

Hitachi, on the other, is handling manufacturing, assembly, operation and maintenance and other works associated with the offshore wind turbines with downwind rotor.
