BrainBox AI secures SDTC funding for autonomous building technology

BrainBox AI, a provider of autonomous building technology, has secured an investment of CAD 6.5 million from Sustainability Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

The investment forms part of SDTC’s commitment to encourage commercial real estate owners globally to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the environmental impact of their real estate portfolios using artificial intelligence (AI).

BrainBox AI develops digital control solution that leverages AI to enhance heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to make buildings more energy efficient.

With the investment, the Montreal, Canada-based BrainBox AI anticipates to enhance the scope and global scalability of its artificial intelligence technology.

BrainBox AI also expects to accelerate the company’s automation solution and strengthen its global cloud computing infrastructure through the investment from SDTC.

Nicolas Bossé — BrainBox AI Chief Energy Transition Officer said: “We are thrilled to be receiving this large investment from SDTC which will allow us to move faster in deploying our solutions around the world helping us tackle GHG emissions in the commercial real estate sector, which accounts for 38% of total global emissions.”

BrainBox AI’s HVAC technology leverages AI to enable brick-and-mortar retailers to achieve their emission reduction goals.

The company’s technology is said to help building owners save energy costs by up to 25% and reduce the carbon footprint of buildings by up to 40%.

BrainBox AI partners with research partners such as the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Institute for Data Valorization, McGill University and Montreal’s Institute for Learning Algorithms.

Created by the Government of Canada in 2021, SDTC has so far invested more than CAD 1.58 billion in over 500 companies, which brought 194 new technologies to market, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 22.6 megatonnes of CO2 yearly.
