ASG LegalTech acquires online legal payments platform Headnote
ASG LegalTech, a portfolio firm of Alpine Investors, has acquired California-based Headnote, an online payments platform that offers compliant ePayments and AR management for law companies of all sizes.
The financial terms of the deal were not revealed.
Established in 2016 by Sarah Schaaf, Thornton Schaaf, and Matt Crampton, Headnote is backed by investors such as NFX and Uncork Capital. The company offers customized payment solutions for attorneys.
ASG LegalTech, on the other hand, is the legal technology business of Alpine SG (ASG), which was created in February 2019 through the merger of its subsidiaries PracticePanther and Bill4Time.
According to ASG LegalTech, Headnote is the latest addition to its platform of quickly growing legal Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products, which include PracticePanther, MerusCase, and Bill4Time.

Headnote represents the 28th acquisition for ASG, the fourth for its legal technology business, and the first payments platform for the overall ASG portfolio.

Headnote and ASG LegalTech are preparing to roll out their first fully integrated, all-in-one payment solution, which is expected to be a reimagined and streamlined version of PantherPayments.
