Arkema to acquire Mexican emulsion resins producer Polimeros Especiales

Arkema, a French specialty chemicals company, has agreed to acquire Polimeros Especiales, an emulsion resins producer in Mexico, for an undisclosed price.

Polimeros Especiales is engaged in producing high performance waterborne resins for a variety of applications in markets like textiles, decorative and architectural paints, construction, and pressure sensitive adhesives.

In 2021, the Mexican emulsion resins producer registered nearly $40 million in sales.

Polimeros Especiales has a workforce of 230 people.

Directors of Polimeros Especiales stated: “We are proud to be joining forces with Arkema and together, we will further develop innovative waterborne solutions for more sustainable resin offerings in the dynamic American market.”

For Arkema, the acquisition of the emulsion resins producer in Mexico fully aligns with the expansion strategy of its coating solutions segment in emerging markets and in low-volatile organic compound solutions.

According to the French specialty chemicals company, waterborne is among its key solvent-free technologies along with powder, ultraviolet/light emitting diode/electron beam as well as high-solid systems.

Manuel Garcia — Arkema Mexico General Manager said: “Thanks to Polimeros Especiales, Arkema will develop new positions in the Mexican market, which is experiencing robust growth. The acquisition will ensure continuous strong support to our customers and will enable Arkema to broaden its product offering locally”.

The deal, which is subject to antitrust clearances, is likely to close in the third quarter of this year.
