Amazon to open fulfillment centers in Illinois and Idaho

Amazon has announced plans to open fulfillment centers in the US states of Illinois and Idaho, thereby creating more than 1,500 jobs.

In Illinois, the e-commerce giant will be opening the fulfillment center in Channahon, where 500 plus new, full-time jobs will be created with starting wages of $15 an hour alongside company benefits.

Employees working at the more than one million-square-foot Amazon fulfillment center in Channahon will be engaged in picking, packaging, and shipping of large customer items like sports equipment, fishing rods, patio furniture, bicycles, pet food, kayaks, and larger household goods.

The Amazon fulfillment center in Channahon is being developed by Venture One.

Currently, Amazon has over 11,000 full-time associates across Illinois.

Commenting on the Amazon fulfillment center in Channahon, Alicia Boler Davis – Amazon’s Vice President of Global Customer Fulfillment, said: “Illinois is a great place to do business and we are excited to continue our growth and investment in the state with our new fulfillment center in Channahon.

“Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $4 billion in the state through its local fulfillment center and cloud infrastructure, research facilities, and compensation to thousands of employees in the state. We are excited to create more than 500 new full-time jobs, in addition to the 11,000 current employees across the state, who receive industry-leading pay and benefits starting on day one.”

The other new Amazon fulfillment center will be the first-ever in the state for the company in Idaho. To be located in Nampa, the fulfillment center will span more than 650,000 square feet.

The Amazon fulfillment center in Nampa, which is scheduled to open next year, will create 1,000 plus full-time jobs and will give the new recruits scope to work alongside Amazon robotics.

Brad Little – Governor of Idaho, commenting on the Amazon fulfillment center in Idaho, said: “Amazon’s investment in Nampa will add job opportunities for our citizens and create a ripple effect of economic activity throughout the region.

The Amazon fulfillment center in Nampa, which will be developed in partnership with Pannotoni Development, will execute customer orders like books, electronics, and toys.
